Besides communicating the quality of the product, an application on the Melitta Facebook page also had to bring home how enjoyable drinking coffee is - and increase brand visibility on the social web.

Implementation

When friends meet for coffee, there's one thing that counts just as much as the pleasure of the coffee, and that's gossip. Drinking coffee is a social event – so, integrating it into the social web was a logical step to take. An application on Melitta's Facebook page analyzes members' contacts and gives them hints on which friends they could catch up with to go for a coffee. Depending on the contact frequency with the friend, they could either meet up for a quick espresso, a cup of coffee or a relaxing latte macchiato. The contact evaluation graph resembles a coffee filter, a direct reference to one of Melitta's most famous products. And users who also post a picture of their get-together on their wall also take part in a monthly prize draw to win Melitta a coffee courtesy package.

Conclusion

With the help of the application, the number of Melitta fans increased by 581% in comparison to the previous month. During the active campaign period, engagement ads attracted 1,226 new fans. There were 1,895 clicks on the Facebook tab where the application was anchored – and the application itself was installed 927 times.
